Original artwork on wood with pumice stone, printing ink and nails. Arte povera and assemblage. Unique piece of material investigation.

Dialogue with Arte Povera

The piece engages with the tradition of Arte Povera and contemporary assemblage: humble, residual materials are transformed into carriers of meaning. The pulverized and sanded pumice stone creates a lunar, porous, and vibrant surface that absorbs and reflects light irregularly.

Printing ink—a material for mechanical reproduction—is reinterpreted as expressive pigment, while nails act as sculptural elements that pierce the surface and generate spatial tensions. Each material retains its industrial and natural history.

Discursive load and physical presence

The work occupies the threshold between painting, relief, and object. The nails are not merely decorative: they structure the visual discourse and activate a narrative of construction, fixation, and permanence. The sanded surface reveals layers of matter that function as emotional archaeology.

A proposal of formal rigor and conceptual coherence, intended for collectors who value material research, the primitive mystery of objects and the discursive intensity of contemporary assemblage.

Xabier Liz (Santiago de Compostela, 1971) develops a visual language where matter is both origin and meaning.
